REPUTATION

Richard E. Gilbert, owner and founder of Ashland, utilized his wealth of 50 years experience in Horology to publish catalogs of fine vintage watches and antique jewelry mailed to a select clientele around the world.

Mr. Gilbert is the co-author of the most referenced book on antique watches, also referred to as "The Bible" within the industry, The Complete Price Guide to Watches. This price guide has been a mainstay in this industry for 25+ years. Mr. Gilbert has also authored another book, with the help of Jim Wolf, titled The Complete Price Guide to Antique Jewelry. Richard M Gilbert, as a second-generation horologist, is also ready to inherit the responsibility of co-authoring The Complete Price Guide to Watches.

Ashland has bought and sold a number of important watches and objects of virtue: everything from tourbillions by Houriet, perpetual repeaters by Patek Philippe, to repeaters by Breguet. Ashland has been represented in auctions all over the world and continually buys the finest investment pieces for their private customers.

Examples of important watches that Ashland has sold:

  • In 1998, Ashland sold a Ref. 3970/E Patek Philippe wristwatch with chronograph, perpetual calendar, and moon phase for $47,500. The most recent example of this watch at auction brought just over $100,000!

  • In 1982, Ashland was selling 23J Waltham Vanguard Wind Indicators for $300, these are watches that currently sell for $1,200 - $1,500.

  • In 1991, Ashland sold a Ref. 3448 Patek Philippe perpetual calendar, moon phase wristwatch for $32,000. The same reference number Patek just brought $128,000 at auction.
